Flow Chemistry India 2023
Overview
The FCS India Annual Conference is conducted physically every year in Mumbai under the aegis of Flow Chemistry Society, Switzerland. This year's 2023 event will be held on 14-15 September 2023 in Mumbai.
This conference and exhibition brings together both the scientists as well as the companies offering technologies for Flow Chemistry at a single platform to discuss the issues and topics for achieving research and business objectives. The objective of this meeting is to discuss the bottlenecks and explore their solutions for conducting successful flow chemistry-based reactions at the commercial scale.
The Flow Chemistry Society, Switzerland is dedicated to enhancing the public appreciation of flow chemistry and its integration into everyday practice throughout the world by delivering the latest knowledge and making it available for the entire chemistry community.
The existing FCS members will get 25% discount on the published registration charges. The registration charges include the first-year membership fee of FCS. Attendees of Flow Chemistry India 2022 can register on FCS member rates.

Timothy Noel's Biography
Timothy Noel
Full Professor & Chair Flow Chemistry

Timothy Noël obtained his PhD from Ghent University in 2009 at the Laboratory for Organic and Bioorganic Synthesis. Next, he crossed the ocean to work at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow on the development of new continuous-flow methods for cross-coupling chemistry. In 2012 he moved to Eindhoven University of Technology to become an assistant professor. He was promoted to associate professor in 2017. He joined the University of Amsterdam in 2020 as Full Professor of Flow Chemistry at the Van \\\'t Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences. His research interests are flow chemistry, homogeneous catalysis and organic synthesis.
He received for his work several recognitions, including the Thieme Chemistry Journal Award, the DECHEMA award, the Hoogewerff Jongerenprijs and the IUPAC-Thalesnano Flow Chemistry Award. He also serves as the editor in chief of the Journal of Flow Chemistry since 2019.

Prof Paul Watts started his career as a lecturer at the University of Hull in 2002, being promoted to full professor in 2011. At the University of Hull he led the micro reactor and flow technology group. In February 2013, he moved to Nelson Mandela University to hold the distinguished position of ‘Research Chair in Microfluidic Bio/Chemical Processing’. He has published of over 120 highly cited papers. He strongly believes that scientists should conduct research that impacts society; the biggest project underway involves the local production of key drugs as the morbidity and mortality from major diseases are much more devastating in Africa than in other regions of the world. The vision is that new technology will be used within South Africa to manufacture generic drugs; this could create jobs and a new manufacturing industry within the country.

Dr. Amol A. Kulkarni is a Scientist in the Chemical Engineering & Process Development Division at the CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune (Since 2005). He is a chemical engineer by training (B. Chem. Eng. 1998, and Ph.D. in chemical engineering 2003 from the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai. He did his post doctorate at the MPI-Magdeburg (Germany) as a Humboldt Fellow (2004) and was an IUSSTF Research Fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA in 2010.
He works in the area of design and development of microreactors and exploring their applications for continuous syntheses of pharmaceutical intermediates, dyes, perfumery chemicals and nanomaterials. He has established the first of its kind microreactor laboratory in India. He also works on multiphase reactors, boiling reactors, design of fluid devices, new impeller concepts and experimental fluid dynamics.
He has been awarded with VASVIK Award by VASVIK Foundation for Excellence in Industrial Research (2016), Swarnajayanti Fellowship by the Dept. of Sci. and Tech. (2015), OPPI Young Scientist Award (2015), Scientist of the Year Award of NCL (2014), CSIR Young Scientist Award (2011), INSA Medal for Young Scientists (2009), Young Engineer Award by the Indian National Academy of Engineering (2009). He is also a member of the Selection Committee of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Germany) and FWO Foundation (Brussels).
He has published over 90 papers in international peer reviewed journals, supervised 7 PhD students (7 ongoing), filed over 35 patents and also designed several flow reactors that are licensed to Indian industries. He also works on industry sponsored design and feasibility projects and consultant to many industries. He is on the editorial boards of a international peer reviewed journals like Journal of Flow Chemistry (Springer), Advanced Powder Technology (Elsevier) and on the Advisory Board of Reaction Chemistry and Engineering (RSC UK). He is also on the international scientific committee of IMRET and a member of the national organizing committee for ISCRE-2020

Simon Kuhn obtained his PhD from ETH Zurich (Switzerland) and was a SNF postdoctoral fellow at MIT (US). Currently, he is a professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering at KU Leuven. He was awarded starting and consolidator grants by the European Research Council for his work on intensified flow reactors for multiphase reaction systems and particle synthesis. His research interests lie in the characterization of transport processes in complex flows, scaling-up micro-chemical systems, and the design of novel flow reactors.

Dr Thomas Wirth is professor of organic chemistry at Cardiff University. After studying chemistry in Bonn/Germany and at the Technical University of Berlin/Germany, he obtained his PhD in 1992 with Professor S. Blechert. After a postdoctoral stay with Professor K. Fuji at Kyoto University a JSPS fellow, he started his independent research at the University of Basel/Switzerland. In the group of Professor B. Giese he obtained his habilitation on stereoselective oxidation reactions supported by various scholarships before taking up his current position at Cardiff University in 2000. He was invited as a visiting professor to a number of places including the University of Toronto/Canada (1999), Chuo University in Tokyo, Osaka University, Osaka Prefecture University and with a JSPS fellowship to Kyoto University (2012). He was awarded the Werner-Prize from the New Swiss Chemical Society (2000), the Furusato award from JSPS London (2013) and recently the Wolfson Research Merit Award from the Royal Society and the Bader Award from the Royal Society of Chemistry (2016). In 2016 he was elected as a fellow of The Learned Society of Wales. His main interests of research concern stereoselective electrophilic reactions, oxidative transformations with hypervalent iodine reagents including mechanistic investigations and organic synthesis performed in microreactors.

Dr Marcus Baumann graduated from Philipps-University Marburg (Germany) in 2007 before moving to Cambridge/UK to study for a PhD with Prof. Steven V. Ley FRS. On completion of his PhD in 2010 he was awarded a Feodor-Lynen postdoctoral fellowship by the Humboldt foundation allowing him to join the research group of Prof. Larry E. Overman at the University of California in Irvine. After two years in Irvine, he returned to the UK to work with Prof. Ian R. Baxendale at the University of Durham applying flow methodology to the scaled synthesis of biologically relevant chemical entities.
In 2017 he became an Assistant Professor for Continuous Flow Chemistry at University College Dublin, where his group’s efforts centre around the development of new continuous flow methods applied to the effective generation of various target molecules. In 2021 he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Toronto. Current areas of interest include process development, reaction scale-up, photochemistry, telescoped multi-step sequences and flow biocatalysis.

Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre, CPI
John is the Director of the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre, a new £88m facility located in Glasgow, Scotland. Prior to joining CPI in October 2019, John worked for GSK for over 32 years covering all aspects of the manufacturing supply chain from large-scale fermentation, fine chemicals (both chemical and enzymatic conversions), chemical development and secondary sterile operations (vial and syringe filling).
In 1997 he moved to GSK House to lead one of the work streams of a global network re-structuring programme. In 2000 he moved to Irvine, Scotland as Head of Development before returning to GSK House to lead the Global Manufacturing Project Management Office (PMO) which included a project for the 2012 London Olympics and to establish a PMO for GSK’s Core Business Services Function (a consolidation of IT, Procurement and Worldwide Real Estate), which he then led as their Head of PMO. In 2017 he returned to Manufacturing to lead a Global Manufacturing Strategy Programme before leaving to join CPI as the Centre’s Director.

Dr Kishan has started his career with GE India Tech. Center, Bangalore in 2000, and became Technical Director in 2009. He became Global Technology Leader for Aromatics & chloro-alkali in 2012 (Geleen, Netherlands) and Managing Director, STC Bengaluru (~350+ team) & Board of Director for SRTPL during 2014-2019.
In 2019, he has founded 2 new companies “Sravathi Advance process Technologies Pvt Ltd & Sravathi AI Technology Pvt Ltd”. He is presently Founder, MD & CEO and also Board of director for both Sravathi companies. His team (~150+ people) working on cutting edge Sravathi AI platform for chemistry and flow chemistry.
Dr Kishan’s work in monomers and catalysis have been significant in commercialization of various projects in GE /SABIC. Dr Kishan has received many accolades over the years, such as CV Raman Innovation Award (2006), Most valuable player award (2008), Supper achiever award (2002), Gold patent award and >20 Management awards received from GE/SABIC. Dr Kishan has 35 publications, 25 conference papers and >50 are granted patents to his credential. He was invited speaker in National & International conferences. He is also Ph.D thesis examiner and referee for International journals.

Dr. Upendra K. Sharma received his PhD (2011) from the CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology, Palampur, India. He then became an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Jalandhar, India. In 2013, he joined Prof. Erik Van der Eycken\\\'s research group at the University of Leuven, Belgium, followed by postdoctoral stints with Prof. Klavs F. Jensen (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Prof. Steven Ley (University of Cambridge), Prof. Timothy Noël (University of Eindhoven), and Prof. Shu-Li You (Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry), and has since published more than 70 articles in reputed international journals as well as co-editing a Springer series book on Flow Chemistry of Heterocycles. He joined KU Leuven in 2020 as a research expert (Jr. group leader), and his research is focused on developing photo- & electro-catalyzed single-electron-transfer (SET) reactions for the synthesis of (bio)molecules in batch and continuous-flow. Furthermore, the approach to scalability is more chemist-focused, with the goal of developing new chemical methodologies that are more suitable for flow chemistry.

He works as Application Engineer Manager in Corning\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Advanced-Flow™ Reactor business since 2007 and leads the Application Engineering Team. He has already conducted many successful projects helping international customers to move to continuous production. Among the most notable ones, he supported a customer in setting up large-scale nitration under cGMP conditions for pharmaceutical production. In addition to his everyday task of assisting customers, he is a co-author of scientific articles, has submitted patents in the field of micro-reactors and flow chemistry, and has presented results at scientific conferences. Before joining Corning he gathered international experience by working in small and large-sized companies in industries like energy, food, automotive, and pharma. Dr. Vishwanath H. Dalvi is a chemical engineering faculty at the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. His vision is for India to be a resilient, secure, knowledge-based economy. His research focuses on sustainable development and economic empowerment. To that end, he works on developing technologies that are imperatively decentralized e.g., micro CSP power generation, waterless toilets, novel biogas generators and open-source process engineering tools. He is known to be an excellent teacher having won awards for teaching both from the Institute of Chemical Technology and from the All-India Council of Technical Education. He is currently consulting Amar equipment on process and reactor development in the field of flow chemistry. He is also very passionate about coffee, cookies and cats.

Dr Marcus Baumann graduated from Philipps-University Marburg (Germany) in 2007 before moving to Cambridge/UK to study for a PhD with Prof. Steven V. Ley FRS. On completion of his PhD in 2010 he was awarded a Feodor-Lynen postdoctoral fellowship by the Humboldt foundation allowing him to join the research group of Prof. Larry E. Overman at the University of California in Irvine. After two years in Irvine, he returned to the UK to work with Prof. Ian R. Baxendale at the University of Durham applying flow methodology to the scaled synthesis of biologically relevant chemical entities.
In 2017 he became an Assistant Professor for Continuous Flow Chemistry at University College Dublin, where his group’s efforts centre around the development of new continuous flow methods applied to the effective generation of various target molecules. In 2021 he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Toronto. Current areas of interest include process development, reaction scale-up, photochemistry, telescoped multi-step sequences and flow biocatalysis.

John is the Director of the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre, a new £88m facility located in Glasgow, Scotland. Prior to joining CPI in October 2019, John worked for GSK for over 32 years covering all aspects of the manufacturing supply chain from large-scale fermentation, fine chemicals (both chemical and enzymatic conversions), chemical development and secondary sterile operations (vial and syringe filling).
In 1997 he moved to GSK House to lead one of the work streams of a global network re-structuring programme. In 2000 he moved to Irvine, Scotland as Head of Development before returning to GSK House to lead the Global Manufacturing Project Management Office (PMO) which included a project for the 2012 London Olympics and to establish a PMO for GSK’s Core Business Services Function (a consolidation of IT, Procurement and Worldwide Real Estate), which he then led as their Head of PMO. In 2017 he returned to Manufacturing to lead a Global Manufacturing Strategy Programme before leaving to join CPI as the Centre’s Director.
