1st Workshop-cum-Webinar on CRISPR Genome Editing
Overview
Since the discovery of the CRISPR-Cas9 based genome editing technology in 2012, the world is witnessing an unprecedented revolution in its use for various applications for genetic improvement and modification of various organisms. The technology enables the manipulation of targeted genes in a precise and efficient manner in many organisms and cell lines, and has become indispensable for all life science researchers globally, ranging from agriculture to pharma to health sectors.
In this 5-day online workshop, we will cover the basics of genome editing as investigated by researchers in different organisms including model plant species and elaborate its application for sustainable agriculture, better nutrition, health benefits and environmental sustainability.
Future developments and directions of the emerging genome editing tools and technologies will also be discussed.
The faculty for the workshop will be drawn from reputed national and international organizations working in the area of CRISPR mediated genome editing in agriculture, pharma and health sector.

Kutubuddin A Molla's Biography
Prof Kutubuddin A Molla, Scientist from ICAR-NRRI Odisha, India. Dr. Molla's areas of specialization are CRISPR/Cas tools development, Precise Genome Editing, Base Editing, Genetic Engineering, Transgenesis, Host-pathogen interaction.
His previous positions were: He was Fullbright Visiting Scholar, Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology, Pennsylvania State University, USA (2017-2019). He was the Scientist, Division of Genomic Resources, ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi. He has many publications and book chapters to his credit and is the recipient of many awards and recognitions.

Received Ph.D. in molecular biology from Ehime University, Japan, and then worked as a Postdoc at Proteo-Science Center with Prof. Hidenori Hayashi. Currently, involved in the development of novel genome editing tools in bacteria, yeast, and plants in Prof. Jae-Yean Kim\\\'s Laboratory at GNU, South Korea. Major interest is CRISPR/Cas-based targeted random mutagenesis for mimicking the crop evolution in fast-forward manner.

His research interests include Agrobacterium-mediated gene transfer methods of cereals and targeted genome modifications using custom endonucleases such as clustered regularly-interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR/Cas). Furthermore, he is interested in the production of pharmaceuticals in plants (molecular farming). He has published ca 100 research papers and several book chapters with various publishers. Goetz Hensel has been serving as a Senior Editorial Board Member for since 2020.

Inez is currently the head of Rice Genetic Design and Validation unit at IRRI and is assigned as the the global lead of CGIAR gene editing initiative. Her research portfolio includes improving nutrition through healthier rice, disease resistance, drought, low phosphorus tolerance, and rice productivity.Prior to her appointment at IRRI, she worked at the Research Center for Biotechnology, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) as the head of Molecular Biology Division, as a consultant at the United Nations Environment Programme-Global Environment Facility. She represented Indonesia in the sub committee of Biotechnology at ASEAN Committee of Science and Technology. She was also appointed as Biosafety Clearing House Expert of Cartagena Protocol, Convention of Biological Diversity.She has received numerous recognitions throughout her career, including the Best Young Scientist Award from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences, awards from the Ministry of Agriculture and from the Indonesian President for her contribution to food security through biotechnology. She was also the Most Cited Scientist at RC-Biotechnology LIPI. At IRRI, she won Best Scientific Achievement Team in 2017, and she was awarded the Best Scientific Team Award from the DOST- Los Baños Science Community in 2018.Inez is also an elected fellow of The World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries (TWAS)-UNESCO and an adjunct professor at UP Los Baños. Prof KC Bansal's Biography
Professor KC Bansal is a former Director of the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. He also spearheaded the National Transgenic Crop Network across various ICAR research institutions.
His research interests include functional genomics and transgenic development for abiotic stress tolerance in plants; developed the first series of transgenic crops with improved tolerance to drought and salt stress. His work on functional characterization of LEA, MYB, sHSP and osmotin gene is well known. The first ABA receptor gene OsPYL10 from an Indian drought tolerant rice landrace was cloned by his lab.
He took an unprecedented initiative to evaluate the entire wheat germplasm (~ 22000 accessions) conserved at the Indian National Genebank, and identified trait-specific reference sets.
Prof. Bansal served as Vice-Chair (Asia), Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, FAO, United Nations (2013-15). He is recipient of the Indian Science Congress award conferred on him by the Prime Minister of India, and the Haryana Vigyan Ratna (Highest State Science award).
Prof. Bansal is elected Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the National Academy of Science, India. He serves on the Editorial Board of the Plant Biotechnology Journal.
